Help build the Lexicon

cooperation

✔️Are you an amateur or professional entomologist?

✔️ Do you deal with a specific taxonomic group within the Coleoptera order?

✔️ Do you want to become part of the team creating this project and thus get all the basic information about the beetles living in the Czech Republic in one place?

✔️ Do you want to help novice entomologists with their orientation within this taxonomic group?

If you answered YES to at least some of the previous questions, write to me and we will arrange cooperation.

Fulfilling the mission of the project and describing all approximately 6,800 species of beetles recorded in the Czech Republic in a reasonable time is a task that requires the participation of a team of contributors.

I will be very happy if we find colleagues with whom we can form a stable team that will help bring this project to a state where we can say that it is complete enough to provide a complete picture of the beetle fauna of the Czech Republic.

The idea of standard collaboration is that each team member will be responsible for a specific taxonomic group (for larger groups there may be more such contributors) or area for which they will prepare and update content.

Species cards are the basic building block of the lexicon. Each species card contains the following types of information:

  • full name of the species;
  • taxonomic classification;
  • status of protection;
  • bioindicator group;
  • the size of an adult;
  • economic importance;
  • the basic description of the species;
  • latin and language synonyms;
  • etymology of the name;
  • detailed information about the species (description of development, bionomy, host plant, seasonal activity, altitudinal zonation, approximate occurrence within Europe and a more detailed map of the Czech Republic – faunistic grids for individual time periods);
  • determination (main identifying features, DNA barcoding, possible confusion with other species and how to distinguish them, dimorphism, dichroism);
  • photo gallery (egg, larva, pupa, adults, typical biotope, host plants);
  • links (used information sources).

At the end of this call, it is fair to point out that the project is designed as non-profit and is created by the voluntary activities of its creators and contributors.

If the invitation to collaborate on this project has appealed to you, write to me and we will agree on the details.
