Ecological valence = the ability of the organism to exist in a certain range of values of the environmental factor

Species of organisms can be divided based on their relationship to ecological valence (or amplitude) into:

  • stenovalent species = organisms with narrow valence to a certain ecological factor (specialized for specific conditions)
  • euryvalent species = organisms with a wide valence to a certain ecological factor (capable of surviving in various conditions)
